MSD’s can range from general aches and pains to more serious problems. Medical practitioners do recommend that all the users who use computers regularly should report signs and symptoms as early as possible to prevent serious injury or permanent damage. The most commonly noticed signs and symptoms of MSD associated with computer use are as follows:
Signs and Symptoms
1) Numbness or a burning sensation in the hand2) Reduced grip strength in the hand3) Swelling or stiffness in the joints4) Pain in wrists, forearms, elbows, neck, or back followed by discomfort5) Reduced range of motion in the shoulder, neck, or back6) Dry, itchy, or sore eyes7) Blurred or double vision8) Aching or tingling9) Cramping10) Loss of color in affected regions11) Weakness12) Tension stress headaches and related ailments
These types of problem can be caused by any of the following factors:
1. If the user maintains an unnatural or unhealthy posture while using the computer 2. If the lower back support is inadequate for the user3. If the user continues to sit in the same position for an extended period of time 4. If the workstation set up is ergonomically poor.
It should be noticed that all these symptoms might not necessarily lead to an MSD. However, if the user experiences any of the above symptoms, he/she should make an evaluation of their working positions as well as the layout of their workstation.
It is always better to take precautions to avoid musculoskeletal disorders than to treat them after you get affected. Some general precautions include: · Taking regular breaks from working at your computer – a few minutes at least once an hour · Alternating work tasks like mixing computer tasks with non computer tasks alternately to avoid strain· Regular stretching to relax your body · Using comfort equipment such as footrests, wrist/palm rests, and document holders if required · Keeping the mouse and keyboard at the same level · Avoiding gripping your mouse too tightly – it is always recommended to hold the mouse lightly and click gently
The monitor should possess the following features: · Your monitor should swivel, tilt and elevate – if not use an adjustable stand, books, or blocks to adjust the height · It should be positioned so the top line of the monitor is not higher than your eyes or not lower than 20° below the horizon of your eyes or field of vision · Ensure that it is at the same level and near the document holder if you use one · It should be between 18 to 24 inches away from your face The keyboard should possess the following features: · It should be detachable and adjustable (with legs to adjust angle) · It should allow your forearms to be parallel to the floor without having to raise your elbows · It should allow your wrists to be in line with your forearms so your wrists need not be flexed up or down · It should include enough space to rest your wrists or should include a padded detachable wrist rest (or you can use a separate gel wrist rest which should be at least 50 mm deep) · It should be placed directly in front of the monitor and at the same height as the mouse, track ball, touch pad, or any other pointing device.
The chair should possess the following features: · It should support the back, and have a vertically adjustable independent back rest that returns to its original position and should have tilt adjustment to support the lower back · It should allow the user to adjust its height to be adjusted from a sitting position · It should be adjusted so the back crease of the knee is slightly higher than the pan of the chair (use a suitable footrest, if required) · It should be supported by a five prong caster base · Ensure that it has removable and adjustable armrests · It should also have a contoured seat with breathable fabric and rounded edges to distribute the weight and should be adjustable to allow the seat pan to tilt forward or back
The table/desk should possess the following features:
· Ensure that your table/desk provides ample leg room and is height adjustable (preferably)· It should have enough room to support the computer equipment and space for documents · It should be at least 900 mm deep · It should have rounded and blunt corners and edges
As discussed earlier, ensure that your workstation is set up correctly. Normally, it includes the monitor, keyboard, mouse, seating, desk, and where appropriate, footrest, wrist rest, and document holder.
I did not become familiar with gestational diabetes until recently when my sister-in-law and my best friend were both diagnosed with it within a week. Many women I know, myself included, have made it through pregnancies without having any serious problems like gestational diabetes.
Basically, gestational diabetes is a disease that can come on during pregnancy but that usually disappears once the baby has been born. In some women, pregnancy results in their blood sugar levels getting out of balance. A pregnant woman might realize that she is having blood sugar problems on her own or it might take a doctor to determine that her levels are not normal. Regardless of how it is discovered, gestational diabetes is a serious issue that needs to be handled with caution and care throughout a woman’s pregnancy and after.
When my sister-in-law and my closest friend were struggling with feeling abnormally up and down during their pregnancies, their doctor took blood tests and determined that their blood sugar levels were being affected by their pregnancies and their food choices. They were both diagnosed simply by having this blood work done. At first they were hesitant and scared because gestational diabetes sounded huge and they didn’t know how relatively simple the treatment process could be.
Gestational diabetes, because it is primarily an imbalance of blood sugar, can often be regulated by changes in diet and levels of exercise. The amount of changes that are necessary are dependant upon how poor of habits the women have to begin with. My sister-in-law and my friend had to make different levels of changes to their diets, but neither had to make such significant changes that their lifestyle was radically altered. Mostly their changes consisted of going on a low-sugar and low-carb eating plan. Gestational diabetes brings a risk of the baby getting to large during its gestational period and needing to be delivered early or by c-section. The more the pregnant mother cuts down on sugar intake, the less likely it is that the baby will get too large to be delivered vaginally.
If you are pregnant or are thinking of becoming pregnant in the near future, take some time and learn about ways to prevent gestational diabetes. It is the best for you and your baby. Prevention is always a better option than having to find a solution to high blood sugar levels. Be wise with your food and exercise choices from the start and you should be able to avoid dealing with gestational diabetes in your pregnancies. Talk with your doctor and take every possible precaution.
Human Papilloma Ciruses (HPV) is a virus that infects humans. Some of the effects of the virus are associated with sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s).Over one hundred strains of the virus have been identified by Scientists. Most of these strains are harmless. Some of these strains can produce common skin warts which appear on the hands and feet. Approximately thirty strains are spread through sexual contact. Some of these thirty can cause visible warts known as genital warts, while others can cause cervical and genital cancer.
HPV greatly outnumbers other std’s making it the most common sexually transmitted infection. An estimated 80% of sexually active adults are infected with one or more genital HPV strains at some point in their life. The vast majority of infected people suffer no side effects from the virus, which means that most of these people don’t even know that they are infected. This lack of knowledge doesn’t stop them from infecting others though. The immune system is usually able to clear the virus from the body within a year. After the virus is cleared from the body, that individual person is immune to that particular strain of HPV.
HPV is almost an unavoidable and invisible result of sexual activity. For this reason, most health authorities recommend that women have an annual pap smear following their first sexual activity, to ensure early detection of cervical cancer.
The only safe way to prevent HPV transmission is to abstain from any contact with the genitals of others. Not even “safe sex”, the use of Condoms, can provide complete protection from the virus. It’s not advisable to just practice safe sex. Perfect Abstinence!
Almost every woman is blessed with the capacity to bear a child at least once in her lifetime. It is considered to be one of the greatest gifts that a woman can give her husband. Bearing a child would make the couple more closer together, and at this certain point in their lives they can actually call themselves a family. Upon learning that the woman is pregnant, most couples enthusiastically start planning for her pregnancy and eventual childbirth.
When talking about pregnancy, it is important to know about preconception issues regarding on giving birth. A check up with the physician or midwife would be advisable for the woman in order to face facts on childbirth. Physical preparation is needed for giving birth, since this could really change the normal function of the woman’s body. A caregiver would be helpful in preparing the woman’s body in conceiving, and also impart information concerning potential problems in pregnancy. Anxiety is felt at this point, since the woman would really have to follow certain precautions in order to conceive a healthy baby. By seeking advice regarding on preconception, safety, lifestyle changes, prenatal vitamins, and the importance of folic acid, the woman could really prepare for giving birth.
In preparing for pregnancy, a change in the woman’s lifestyle is needed. Smoking cigarettes is a definite no-no, and also the consumption of alcohol. These addictions can affect the health of both the woman and her unborn baby. A woman might need to lose or gain weight, according to her present weight relative to her height and build. Being too fat or too thin might bring complications for both the woman and the baby. A good start in preparing for childbirth would be to establish a fitness regime for the period of the pregnancy. Asking the physician about nutrition and working out would be recommended for possible questions regarding exercise and food intake.
Learning more about the woman’s body while on the early stages of giving birth is essential for proper knowledge of the situation. Various parts of a woman’s body have specific roles when it comes to pregnancy. Certain disorders from both prospective parents should be discussed with the physician for additional health background information. Anxiety and stress is also felt by the couple since this is a very critical stage for the woman. Preconception stress is normal in women about to give birth, considering factors such as scheduling, sexuality, and self esteem, among many others.
When preparing for pregnancy, the couple should be confident enough to know how to handle a child. Knowledge of early pregnancy symptoms are also important since these are signs that giving birth would happen in due time. When the couple feels that they are ready, then a visit to the Obstetrician/Gynecologist (OBGYN) would help in gleaning more information on pregnancy. At this point, the couple can make use of a pregnancy calendar in order to follow the due course of giving birth.
Anxiety is often felt by women when they know that they are pregnant. Feelings of worry and tension are usual signs that shows her being anxious about giving birth. But by spending time with your husband, regular visits to the OBGYN, finding time to relax and unwind, with good exercise, anxiety should not be a problem at all. All you have to worry about is what to name the baby?
Hepatitis is caused by viruses and Bacteria (Leptospira sps.) and can be Acute(sudden) or Chronic(prolonged). The easy infection of viruses is due to immuno deficiency in humans against the viruses. The Major Symptoms of hepatitis are Malaise(Inactivity), Anorexia(Loss of appetite), nausea, jaundice, Liver failure, Cirrhosis(Liver Fibrosis), Hepatic coma, Atrophy of Glands etc.
Hepatitis is categorised into 5 types depending on different viruses causing it into namely :1. Hepatitis A – Infectious Hepatitis or epidemic hepatitis.2. Hepatitis B – Serum Hepatitis or Serum Jaundice. 3. Hepatitis C – Non A non B hepatitis.4. Hepatitis D5. Hepatitis E
Hepatitis A is ahighly infectious disease caused by Enterovirus reffered to as Hepatitis A Virus(HAV) and the incubation peiod for this disease is about 2 – 8 weeks and the disease is called Short Incubation Hepatitis. The virus replicates in the liver of the host.Treatment of this disease can be done by immunising with inactivated viral vaccine. This disease in comtaminted in the water and feed, so sanitory conditions should be improved to prevent the disease.
Hepatitis B is a parentally transmitted disease. It is caused by HBV, a hepadna virus which is present in the blood. It shows few symptoms and sometimes if passes off asymptomatically. The incubation period is 1 – 6 months so the disease is called Long Incubation Hepatitis. It is transmitted from mother to child, between intravenous drug abusers, also in Male Homosexuals. The disease causes Cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The disease can be prevented by using sterlised needles for testing and can be treated by vaccinising with Hepatitis B vaccine.
Hepatitis C is Non A non B hepatitis with an incubation of 7 – 8 weeks. This disease is common in parental drug abusers and also through Blood transfusion.
Hepatitis D & E are less common diseases with very less effect and symptoms. Hepatitis D virus requires the presence Of hepatitis B virus for its multiplication.
